WHAT IS BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art and combat sport based on ground fighting (ne-waza) and submission holds. It focuses on the skill of taking an opponent to the ground, controlling one's opponent, gaining a dominant position, and using a number of techniques to force them into submission via joint locks or chokeholds. It's one of the most effective and common used forms of grappling. You will learn this style of grappling from the ground up, in a completely controlled and safe way from expert instructors. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
I've never done any sort of grappling, am I ready to start?
Absolutely, our fundamental classes will give you the foundation technique and concepts you require to progress. Other than grappling itself, little other than having Wrestling or Judo experience will benefit you for grappling.
What should I wear?
You will see on our timetable that we provide 'NoGi' and 'Gi classes. Nogi classes are typically done in shorts and a rashguard. But can easily be done in just a shorts and t-shirt for beginners. Gi classes are done in the 'Gi' which is the kimono used for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. If you don't have one yet, don't stress. We can lend you a gi for your first classes.
How can I benefit from training jiu jitsu at Kuzushi?
At Kuzushi, our aim is provide high level BJJ/ Grappling training with an environment and atomosphere that will encourage our students to develop and succeed.
Am I too old/unfit?
The short answer is no, whatever your fitness level or age. Firstly, fitness is a by-product of BJJ/Grappling, meaning you will become fit while you learn. Far too many people hold off on beginning their training because they feel they are too unfit to begin- this is not true. The fundamentals class will ease you into the process and get your familar with the basic techniques and cocepts while slowly introducing you to the practial aspect.
